THE DREADED FIRST POST
Ok, so here goes the infamous first blog post—the one where I introduce myself (Yvonne Hawkins, it’s a pleasure) and tell you my intentions for this upcoming and soon to be famous blog of mine. Problem is, I’m having trouble with this little necessity called a niche--or some sort of narrowed and watered down topic that never strays. At least it’s been called a necessity by every blog post about blogging that I’ve ever read. “Your blog needs to be focused” or “your blog should be organized and consistent.” But that’s not the way I do anything, honestly. Sure, I might have one of those wake up on the right side of the bed mornings where I jump up at 7 a.m., put on my running shoes, pretend to work out for 5 minutes and then organize my closet or something. I’m not anti-organization, in the relaxed sense at least (I swear I’ll never talk politics on this blog. Scout’s honor.) But the thought of writing about something every single day in your blog about one single topic… I just can’t do it. I am enthused and motivated by so many things, from arts in all forms to people who make things happen in this wonderful, yet sometimes shaky life that we all live. But we’re all capable of great things, and as ambiguous as that may seem it would pretty much sum up the “intent” of my blog. Stories of heroes who overcome profound loss but find what they’ve always been searching for…music so good it sends chills up your spine, even after you’ve listened to the album 50 times (truly good music never gets old.) Artists that make sense in their own right, even if at first they seem ridiculous. The good, the bad, the dark, the fluffy, the humor in it all…. That is what I want to write about.
Stay tuned, Yvonne
